  • The Canadian Coast Guard is now issuing binary messages on an experimental basis.
  • As of June 15, 2019 AIS has become mandatory in Canada for vessels carrying more than 12 passengers or is more than 8 metres long and carrying (any number of) passengers.  Either class A or B is acceptable.
  • 2015:  Tofino Coastguard Radio has been shut down and the peripheral sites are now operated by Prince Rupert Coast Guard Radio.  This affects both Traffic and Safety channels.  The MF and Navtex sites remain at the same locations, they are now referred to as Prince Rupert Radio North and South.
  • As of May 10, 2016 Comox Coastguard Radio has been shut down and the peripheral sites are now operated by Victoria Coast Guard Radio.  The MMSI for Comox is no longer used - for any DSC calls, use the MMSI for Victoria CGR.
